Lattice has won the project to build Hanwha Ocean's 'Erection Interference Management System'. The system supports the management of ship block erection, optimising dock utilisation and preventing safety incidents.
Lattice has won the project to build Hanwha Ocean's 'Erection Interference Management System'.
The project will deliver a system for systematically managing the interferences that occur while ship blocks are being erected. It brings erection routes, interference details and the status of actions by each person in charge together in one place, so that multiple departments can see the same information and respond quickly.
What are 'erection' and 'erection interference'?
A ship is built by fabricating a number of large blocks separately and then assembling them one by one in the dock. Lifting a block with a crane and placing it in its designated position is called 'erection'.
While a block is being moved or set down, its travel path or installation position can overlap with surrounding structures and equipment. This is called 'erection interference'.
When erection interference is not identified in time on site, work is delayed and crane waiting time grows. Because the work involves handling large blocks, it can also affect safety, so it is important that design, production and other related departments share and act on interference details quickly.
How does this relate to shipyard DX?
A smart yard means managing every part of shipyard operations, from design and production to logistics and safety, with digital technology.
The Erection Interference Management System records the reports and action history from the erection site as data, and lets multiple departments review and process that data in the same system, accelerating the transition to a smart yard.
In this system, creating erection routes and interference reports, assigning the person in charge, review and approval, and action replies all take place in one place. Unresolved items and progress by process stage can also be checked at a glance, which shortens the response time when an interference occurs.
Ultimately, the goal of this project is to shorten erection time and reduce crane waiting time, optimising dock utilisation and lowering the risk of safety incidents.
Lattice has worked with Hanwha Ocean on a range of projects in the shipbuilding and offshore sector, including a ship building specification management system. We now bring the shipbuilding domain experience built up through that work to the erection process.
Lattice's customer-dedicated FDEs (Forward Deployed Engineers) work directly alongside Hanwha Ocean's on-site staff to study the erection work, and reflect the requirements identified on site in the feature and screen design, building a system that fits the way the work is actually done.
