Lattice signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PROSTEP on CAD data conversion for shipbuilding
Lattice has signed a MoU with Germany's PROSTEP AG on CAD data conversion for shipbuilding, and will support the entry of PROSTEP's data integration solution OpenPDM into Korea and the wider Asian market.

Lattice has signed a MoU with PROSTEP AG in Germany on a future cooperation in CAD data conversion for the shipbuilding industry.
Based on the MoU, Lattice will support the full-scale entry of PROSTEP's data integration solution OpenPDM into Korea and the wider Asian market.
About PROSTEP
PROSTEP AG, headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, is a specialist in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and specifically in PLM Integration, Migration and Collaboration. The company provides solutions that allow engineering data to be exchanged securely between different systems, and holds numerous references in the shipbuilding and offshore sector across Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific.

Why does shipbuilding need CAD data conversion?
When the CAD system used for ship design differs from the CAD system used in production, the design data cannot go directly into production.
Moving the geometry (the 3D model) alone is not enough. Attributes, connectivity and the modelling structure all have to be preserved for the data to be usable in production design. Automating this conversion greatly reduces the time and cost of rebuilding design data for production.
What does the MoU mean?
Starting with this MoU, PROSTEP as the solution technology partner and Lattice as the market entry partner intend to grow their business in the shipbuilding and offshore sector in Korea and beyond, with a long-term perspective.
Lattice has delivered a range of projects in the shipbuilding and offshore sector, including an integrated ship building specification management system and a knowledge management system for special-purpose vessels. Our customer-dedicated FDEs (Forward Deployed Engineers) start by learning the work on site at the customer, and build systems that capture the exceptions and tacit knowledge that never make it into the documents. We now bring that experience to CAD data conversion, connecting the technology of a global partner with the way work is actually done on the ground in Korea.
